Yechel Gagnon: Documents
September 12 - November 3, 2007

Artist: Yechel Gagnon

Curator: Vicky Chainey Gagnon

Opening Reception: September 12, 5:00pm to 7:00 pm

Produced by the Foreman Art Gallery

Yechel Gagnon’s process of art making bridges a range of disciplinary practices that include sculpture, collage, printmaking, drawing, and is most often presented within the context of installation. Gagnon’s works are composed of layers of plywood which she excavates using chisel, blowtorch and electric router to reveal the hidden layers. The exhibition Documents at the Foreman Art Gallery will feature work that traces the development of Yechel Gagnon’s work with plywood, and her past use of it as a matrix to create printed works and frottage, and present use as the basis for large-format in-situ installations.

Montreal artist Yechel Gagnon holds an AOCAD from the Ontario College of Art and Design and an MFA from Concordia University. An established visual artist, Yechel Gagnon’s work has been exhibited widely both nationally and internationally. Most recent solo exhibitions include Palimpsest – a solo exhibition curated by Alexandria Pierce and organized through the McMaster Art Gallery; Buttress, a solo at Grunt Gallery (Vancouver); and CrossPly, a solo at La Centrale (Montreal). Collections include the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (Halifax, Canada), Osler Hoskins & Harcourt Collection (Ottawa, Canada) and the Gotland Museum (Visby, Sweden).
