The eleventh annual exhibition of the work of graduating students in the Fine Arts department will present artworks by the students from the Fine Arts Studio program and the Art History and Theory program. The exhibition will present painting, drawing, sculpture, multimedia and photography.

Entitled Junction, Bishop’s University’s 2008-2009 fine arts exhibition sets a meeting ground for eleven graduating students who, following the completion of their bachelor degree and while standing at the verge of new projects, propose a compendium of their creative process and initiate, through this very experience, their entry in the professional realm of galleries and exhibition centers. Junction aims in this sense to open up avenues and foster opportunities for these students, as they are about to trace out their own professional path. The exhibition is also meant as a physical and discursive crossroad for their respective (and varied) practices—from pure abstraction to elaborate narrative structures, or again from trashy obsolescence to minimal designs. Junction clears out a reflexive territory for current issues to be addressed, negotiated and even confronted—from environmental concerns to the visual regime of mass culture. It provokes the convergence of art and popular culture, critique and humour, politics and contemplation. Moreover, Junction saturates the asceptisized space of the Foreman Art Gallery with abounding heterogeneity, turning it into a “laboratory” allowing the free play of artistic discourse under all possible forms.

Junction occupies the Foreman Art Gallery of Bishop’s University from April 8 to 25, 2009, and is complemented by a publication under the same title. The exhibition regroups works by Christopher Brandon, Chelsea Caillier, Maude Charland-Lallier, Marie-Pier Corriveau, Jessica Darveau, Allison McClare, Kathryne Owen, Mathieu Pépin, Craig Pettman, Raechel Stableford and Rachel Thompson.

This exhibition is made possible with the generous financial contributions of the Dean of Arts and Science, the Dean of Student Affairs, the Department of Fine Arts, the Student Representative Council, Folletts, the Caisse Populaire Desjardins, and Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton.
